The Hair
The hair of the Elling woman was excellently preserved, we were even able to determine the style it was in at death. The hair was of significant importance as it reflects that it could really have only be done by someone else, meaning that she had people or servants to do this for her, suggesting she possibly came from a higher class. This also coincides with other bog bodies who had things like manicured nails, suggesting service of other people or servants and low or no labor work. This recurring theme of higher class adds weight to the theory they were sacrifices. She also had exceedingly long hair. Someone who worked in the fields would not have had such long hair as it would have been impractical, also providing further suggestion she was of higher class.
The actual hair style consisted of a complex plait from the top of the head that tuns into a braid with 7 ends, once this is done the hair is then tied in a knot towards the back of the head with the braid still hanging down.
