Significance of the Condition and location of the artifacts
The artifacts (mostly her clothes), while few, were very helpful in finding out more about the fashion at the time of the Elling woman. As these artifacts were so well preserved it helped to give an accurate depiction of what life was like at her death in terms of fashion, for those that were slightly damaged, scientists and archeologists have been able to make accurate recreations of them. When we combine this with other artifacts found at the same time as hers, it can give us great detail about the clothing at the time. We know that this cloak was a common item, also that it was finely stitched, indicating a profession and trade. We can also determine what materials were used for clothing and start to think about how these were farmed/manufactured. If the artifacts had not been so well preserved this valuable information and insight into the past would have been lost.
