Life in the Iron Age
An Iron Age house
The Iron age was a time of great change, mainly in new technologies arising and being developed. Towards the every end of the age we see money arrive on the scene as well as wheel spun pottery, people tended to care more about personal appearance and also communities grew and became more established as agriculture grew.
We know that the Elling Woman would have lived in these times, with her life changing around her with these creations arising. We know the lifestyle of the Elling woman by examining other settlements of the same time period. From this we can conclude she would have lived in a settlement which most probably included roads and houses and other community buildings. The houses we singular roomed and round in shape and were focused mainly around a central fire to heat the house. They were constructed from mainly timbre and stone. They also had inside them, areas similar to kitchens etc for making food. They were an agricultural society and grain was an integral part of their society, so converting this into food was able to now be done in every house hold.
